Tourism in Lake Bolsena is strong and well-rooted, thanks to the beauty of the place and the particular presence of two islands, Martana and Bisentina , which each year attract a large number of tourists, especially foreigners (mostly of German nationality).

From the “ Church of the Miracle ” of Santa Cristina in Bolsena, the religious itineraries of the entire province of Viterbo start and arrive, through the valley of the lake where important churches and places of cult, up to the Cathedral of Orvieto.

AQUARIUM OF BOLSENA
The Bolsena aquarium is a new completely public structure owned by the province of Viterbo, designed, built, and managed directly by the Environment Department, inaugurated in May 2011. The aquarium was born as an autonomous structure, inside the Territorial Museum of Lake Bolsenache has mainly archaeological value and is housed inside the Rocca Monaldeschi, a castle built in the late Middle Ages.
LAKE BOLSENA MUSEUM SYSTEM
Inaugurated on May 5, 1991, the territorial museum of Lake Bolsena is housed in the medieval “Rocca Monaldeschi Della Cervara”, to which the new headquarters of the nearby Palazzo Monaldeschi was added in 2011. The museum presents the geological, archaeological, and naturalistic documentation coming from the territory of Bolsena and illustrates the places of particular historical and archaeological interest present in the lake district.

Looking out today from the top of the green hills that surround it, Lake Bolsena still presents to the tourist the same uncontaminated nature scenario that appeared to the “travelers” of the past: in fact, Bolsena came from the poet Petrarch to the German writer Goethe from the English painter Turner to the French musician Berlioz who defined our lake as “a delightful Eden”. The famous “Via Francigena” passed through Bolsena which, from the Middle Ages to the Romantic era, was the main artery along which centuries of wars, pilgrimages, and jubilees passed from all over Europe towards the great myth of Rome. Reading the ancient chronicles, however, we note that the admiration for the landscape did not correspond to the conditions of travel and life that the “travelers” found: muddy roads in winter and dusty in summer, taverns, and inns similar to dirty hovels at times also lacking mattresses to sleep in and eating so dirty that it makes you lose your appetite!

The waters of Lake Bolsena, already clean, due to the absence of polluting industries in the surroundings and the presence of numerous underwater springs, are today particularly clear and clear thanks to an imposing and sophisticated purification system managed by a consortium of municipalities making part of the lake basin. The always mild climate is particularly suitable for children and the elderly.

Food and wine
Bolsena rises on the shores of its lake and boasts a strong food and wine tradition based on fish and agricultural products grown in its territory such as the famous vegetables.
Famous are the dishes based on lake fish such as whitefish, tench, and the renowned eel of Bolsena, a delicious dish of Pope Martin IV which cost him a mention in purgatory in Dante’s Divina Commedia.
The main dish is the “sbroscia”, a sort of lake fish soup that was prepared by fishermen and today reigns on the menus of the best restaurants around the lake.

For me, Lake Bolsena is the lake of memories because it was a fixed stop for summer outings with my family? and although years have passed since then, she has the same fascination on me that she exercised as a child! I have always used the free beach of Bolsena, quite large and with free parking at about 500m.
The perfect combination consists of a visit to a beautiful historic Italian village (Bolsena), from whose alleys you can see the changing colors of the lake and, subsequently, a nice walk along the lake, among the meadows and well-kept paths.
We stopped a couple of hours here with my girlfriend After taking a motorcycle ride. We had ice cream and sat along with one of the shores of the lake, it is really beautiful, the water is very clean and it is, therefore, possible to swim.
