Maremma and Tarquinia. Dante mentions them in Hell, identifying the boundaries of the former exactly between Cecina and Corneto (Tarquinia). The Maremma at the time was considered one of the most inhospitable and wild places in Italy.
Today it is instead a vast varied territory, with unique characteristics, precisely because it offers breathtaking landscapes and naturalistic glimpses. From the crystalline sea, to the long coasts of very fine beach alternating with impervious rocks, to the bright green of the woods and the beautiful flat countryside.
If once the Maremma scared, today it fascinates. Those who arrive in Tarquinia will be amazed by the richness of the landscape in which it is located: the large spaces of the Maremma countryside that surrounds the city center create evocative panoramas in which uncontaminated nature seduces at every step. Thus Tarquinia also becomes the ideal place to have experiences related to the world of hiking, discovering its many naturalistic beauties, as well as the archaeological ones, certainly more famous.
A timeless area, which preserves the traces of ancient civilizations, such as the Etruscans and the Romans who, not without effort, managed to dominate that land so wild and gloomy, but also unexpectedly flourishing. The volcanic origins of the Maremma have, in fact, given its lands a surprising fertility. It is here that ancient peoples, such as the Etruscans, chose to live. In Maremma, medieval centers grew, often in the form of small villages on top of cliffs or spurs, such as Corneto.
